Desirable Pecan Tree

This cultivar is great for pollinating other varieties so that your orchard will produce multitudes of delicious pecans.  The Desirable originated in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.  It is a tree that develops quickly and in as little as six years can consistently yield a moderate production of excellent quality pecans.  Part of the reason that nut quality stays so high with the Desirable is that it experiences a self-thinning drop of pecans to avoid overcrowding.  Weighing in at almost 10 grams per pecan, and with only 38 nuts per pound, the size of the pecan is enormous.  After easily cracking the rough shell, you will find a well developed (54%) kernel that is light golden in color.  Should you purchase Desirable, a Type I tree, we recommend that you allow this tree to cross pollinate with another variety such as the Elliot, Kanza, Kiowa, Stuart, Sioux, or Sumner.  The Desirable will help many of the Type II trees in your yard increase pecan production year after year.
