Pecan Products
The history of pecans can be traced back way before Bass Pecan Company to the 16th century. The only major tree nut that grows naturally in North America, the pecan is considered one of the most valuable North American nut species. The name "pecan" is a Native American word that was used to describe "all nuts requiring a stone to crack.” Fortunately, modern technology has made the pecan a lot easier to crack.
Bass Pecan planted its first orchard in 1906 and have been producing pecans ever since. Pecan production has steadily increased in the United States since 1925, rising from 2.2 million pounds in 1920 to 176 million pounds in 2006. Before 1920, pecans were “hand-shelled” by consumers—in other words, they removed the shell themselves. These days, we offer you the option of cracking the pecans yourself or allowing us to do the work by selling you pecans in the form of natural halves-golden pecans already out of the shell.
